Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Decoration of a Deer's Bust, Stamped "O.L. & A.K./ BALLARD / BURLINGTON, VT," circa 1860, cylindrical jug with squared spout, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a deer's head, chest, and front legs. Deer features a large rack and includes light incising throughout. Ballard maker's mark impressed upside-down at shoulder. Iron ping at base. Shallow spout chip. 3/4" hairline in spout. 1 1/2" salt drip to shoulder. 1 1/2" salt drip to left side near base, beside a 1 3/4" flake. Approximately 3" x 3 1/2" cluster of tight lines to left of decoration.
