Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "F. STETZENMEYER / ROCHESTER, N.Y.," circa 1850, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large and artistic slip-trailed design of a daisy with heavily-shaded petals and leaves. Slip-trailed "3" at shoulder. 10" vertical crack descending from end of one handle onto underside, becoming thinner and extending 8" across underside. 3 1/4" in-the-firing separation line on interior, visible as a 2 1/4" hairline from rim on front. Some light fry to cobalt. 2 1/4" base chip on reverse. Three in-the-firing chips / contact marks on underside, measuring 1 1/2", 1 3/8", and 1 3/8".
