Scarce Five-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Double Bird Decoration, Stamped "J.A. & C.W. UNDERWOOD / FORT EDWARD, N.Y.," circa 1865-1867, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of two crossed birds with crests, long tails, and heavily-shaded bodies, perched in the crook of a tree branch. 10" crack to right of birds. Some light fry to cobalt. Nick to front of rim. Small iron ping to rim on reverse.
