Scarce and Fine Five-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Double-Bird-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "HAXSTUN & CO. / FORT EDWARD, NY," circa 1875, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of two large birds perched on the branches of a tree stump surrounded by ground cover. Impressive large size to decoration with heavy detail to birds' bodies. Restoration to left and right sides of crock, including areas surrounding cobalt on right side of decoration, not touching the cobalt itself. Some restoration to surface of rim on right side of crock's front. Shallow chip on top of rim. Small chip on side of crock. Some tiny nicks on interior of rim.
