Five-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "E & L P NORTON / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1870, ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a long-tailed bird perched on a cluster of leaves. Significant restoration to reverse including areas of rim on reverse. Thin 1 3/8" crack in rim on reverse. Some fry to cobalt. Thin 6 3/4" crack from rim. Thin 3" line to side of churn. Inverted 6 3/4" line on opposite side of churn. 4 1/4" line on underside. Chipping to interior of rim where a lid would rest.
