Rare Stoneware Jar with Incised Foliate Decoration, attributed to the Morgan / van Wickle Pottery, Old Bridge, NJ, early 19th century, approximately two-gallon, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted foliate spray accented with diagonal slashes on the interior of the leaves. Form, distinctive rim, color, and aspects of the incised decoration, are all characteristic of Old Bridge, NJ stoneware. Provenance: Originally found in Old Bridge, NJ. Very nice condition. Horizontal hairline at base on reverse and a short vertical hairline at base. Minor rim wear.
