Rare Stoneware Jar with Incised Floral Decoration and Scalloped Handles, attributed to the Morgan / van Wickle Pottery, Old Bridge, NJ, early 19th century, approximately three-gallon, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and applied handles with unusual scalloped edges. Both sides decorated with large incised and cobalt-highlighted daisy blossoms, with additional elliptical incising inside the two upper petals. Cobalt accents surrounding handles. Sherds excavated at the Morgan / van Wickle Pottery reveal identical floral designs and distinctive, scallop-edged handles. Provenance: Purchased at a Holmdel, NJ antiques show. A chip and two small nicks to one handle. Two small chips to opposite handle, one of which is glazed over, as well as two small handle nicks. In-the-firing, C-shaped line on underside. A very minor base nick.
