Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Cake Crock with Lid, attributed to the Remmey Pottery, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1865, cylindrical crock with heavily-tooled shoulder, squared rim, and ribbed lug handles, decorated on the front and back with brushed cobalt swags and fan-shaped flowers. Brushed cobalt line decoration under each handle. Includes a Remmey stoneware lid with cobalt leaf decoration. Heavy wear and chipping to bottom edge of handles. Crack running across bottom of crock, extending 2" up one side of crock and 1" up opposite side of crock. 1" shallow rim chip and other small rim chips. Flange on underside of lid with large flake, short line, and small nick. Edge of lid with small chip. H 6 1/4" ; Diameter 10".
