Rare and Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Slip-Trailed Grapes Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1820, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled foot, incised shoulder, squared rim, and applied tab handles, decorated on the front and back a delicately slip-trailed design of grapes extending from a leafy stem with stylized flower blossoms. Heavily-brushed cobalt accents to the ends of each handle, along with a vigorously slip-trailed wavy line under each handle. An elegant, early Baltimore jar featuring excellent decoration and color. Excellent condition with two relatively small chips to one handle and a small nick to opposite handle.
