Rare Glazed Redware Dresser Bank with Spattered Manganese Decoration, Pennsylvania origin, 19th century, modeled in the form of an Empire period dresser with footed base, four drawers, and paneled sides, the surface decorated with a splashed manganese glaze over a tan ground. Dresser embellished with hand-incised, turned columns surmounted by leaf carving. Drawers accented with applied knobs, impressed eliptical keyholes, and incised borders. Slot in reverse. A well-crafted and nicely-glazed example of a scarce form in American redware. The vast majority of those found were produced in England. Four chips and other wear to top edge. 1 1/2" hole broken into underside to extract money. Faint 1 1/4" T-shaped line on reverse. Other small nicks. L 6 3/4" ; W 3 5/8" ; H 6 1/2".
