Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "R.C.R. PHILA.," Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and ribbed lug handles, decorated with two large, boldly-brushed tulips extending across the front and back. Wavy line decoration under each handle. R.C.R. maker's mark at base. Front has an approximately 1 1/4" section of reglued surface flakes with long X-shaped hairline extending from it. In-the-firing bubble in clay on front. 5/8" stone ping on reverse. A small chip and a few minor nicks on interior of rim.
