Rare Twenty-Gallon Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "A.P. DONAGHHO / Parkersburg, W.Va.," circa 1880, very large cylindrical jar with tooled shouder, rounded rim, and applied lug handles with squared terminals, stenciled in bold letters across the front "EXCELSIOR POTTERY. / A.P. DONAGHHO / Parkersburg, W.Va". Stenciled words accented with a stenciled sunrise motif, stenciled bands flanking the maker's name, and two large sunburts flanking the number "20". A monumental example of West Virginia stoneware. Excellent condition. H 24 1/4".
