Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug, Stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES, / GREENSBORO, / GREEN CO. PA.," circa 1875, ovoid jug with tooled spout and ribbed handle, heavily-decorated with freehand stripes and vining, the front featuring unusual "GREEN CO" maker's stenciling, flanked by graduated vertical stripes. Base with freehand "2" flanked by stenciled foliate motifs. A well-decorated example of Western PA stoneware. Small spout chip. Spidering hairlines to surface. Wide, in-the-making wire mark to underside. Chip to side of handle.
