Stoneware Canning Jar with Cottageville, WV Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with thick, rounded rim with "wax sealer" interior, featuring the stenciled cobalt advertising "D.W. SAYRE. / DEALER IN / DRY GOODS / GROCERIES, NOTIONS / CLOTHING & C. / COTTAGEVILLE." Some of stenciling lost during the firing. Numerous nicks to inner wax sealer rim. A few tiny base nicks, which appear to be in-the-making. H 8 1/4".
