Rare Westerwald Stoneware Table Salt with Bird Motif, German origin, circa 1770, wheel-thrown bowl resting atop a squared base with molded filigree panels surmounted by turned-head birds. Rim of bowl decorated with cobalt dashes. Base highlighted in cobalt. Exceptional form. 3/4" chip to corner, extending horizontally 2" on one side and 1" horizontally on adjacent side. Two faint hairlines from rim on interior of bowl, not visible on exterior. H 3 1/4".
