Eight-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Paddletailed Bird Decoration, Stamped "N.A. WHITE & SON . UTICA, N.Y.," circa 1885, semi-ovoid churn with tooled collar, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles. Front decorated with a large brushed and slip-trailed cobalt design of a bird with crest and paddle-shaped tail, perched on a flowering vine. Colored flakes to cobalt. Rim chips. Several thin cracks in underside, with wider crack extending 9 1/2" up reverse. Handle chip. H 19".
