Outstanding Five-Gallon Double-Handled Stoneware Jug Cooler with Large Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "SATERLEE & MORY / FT. EDWARD, NY," circa 1875, cylindrical jug with sloped shoulder, squared spout, large circular bung hole, and two applied handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed cobalt bird with crest and long tail, perched on a stylized leaf design. Bung hole decorated with unusual wreath-like trails. Excellent decoration on a rare form. 1 1/2" long chip and two smaller chips to bung hole. Hairlines, possibly in-the-firing, where handles meet spout. Small stone ping besides impressed "5". Small stone ping to right of decoration. 1 1/2" stone ping near base on reverse. H 18 3/4".
