Rare Five-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Chicken Pecking Corn Decoration, NY State origin, circa 1875, semi-ovoid churn with tooled midsection, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a chicken with spotted body and upswept tail, pecking kernels of corn from a stylized ground. Thin 4" crack on underside, continuing up side of churn 6 1/2". Small stone ping to midsection and small stone ping to rim. Additional 5/8" stone ping under one handle. Numerous small nicks to ledge on interior where a lid would rest. H 17".
