Bellarmine Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jug, German, circa 1650, large ovoid jug with tall, heavily-tooled spout and ribbed handle having a scored lower terminal, the shoulder decorated with a molded bearded man's face. Coggled 4 below. Salt-glazed surface decorated with a reddish-brown iron slip. Crazing throughout much of surface. It is unclear whether this damage occurred in the firing or later. Recessed contact mark to right of handle. Smaller contact mark below man's face. Shallow chipping to base. H 17 3/4".
