Fine Westerwald Stoneware Mug with Applied Decoration, German origin, circa 1710, cylindrical mug with tooled shoulder and base embellished a raised diamond pattern with alternating cobalt and manganese highlights. Midsection decorated with a band of three applied medallions with raised foliate designs. Raised designs highlighted in manganese, with surrounding area filled with vivid cobalt. A very attractive example of Westerwald stoneware. 1/2" hairline on underside, continuing 1 1/2" up base. In-the-firing loss to the first applied diamond on the left side of the shoulder. A few minor in-the-firing imperfections to midsection. 2 1/4" hairline from rim. H 6 3/4".
