Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Cake Crock with Cobalt Shaking Hands Decoration, Stamped "SOMERSET / POTTERS WORKS," Massachusetts origin, circa 1875, low-walled cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a crisply-stenciled cobalt design of two hands shaking with cuffed sleeves. Significant restoration to reverse extending around to side of crock, with paint covering one handle. Small chips on interior of rim and small chip on exterior. H 6 1/2" ; Diameter 11".
