Scarce Five-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Large Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "E & L P NORTON / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1870, semi-ovoid churn with tooled shoulder and lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a long-tailed bird perched on a group of leaves. Desirable form and decoration. One chip on exterior of rim and one chip on interior of rim. Handle chip. Base chip. Two unobtrusive chips to underside. Some scratches to cobalt. H 18".
