Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Brushed Cobalt Tulip Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed cobalt "spitting tulip" design. Shallow rim chip on reverse with 2 1/4" hairline extending down from it. Contact mark below rim on reverse. Horizontal line in one handle. Some staining from use. Small chip on interior of rim and at base on reverse. Chip off underside at base. Wear to interior of rim where a lid would rest. H 11 1/2".
