Rare Stoneware Bottle with Painted "PORTER" Stenciling, Stamped "S. BURR," probably Northeastern U.S., mid 19th century, cylindrical form with tall neck culminating in a thick spout, impressed "S. BURR" on shoulder. Surface covered in an Albany slip glaze and neck area painted salmon with brown stenciling, which reads "HUBBELLS (B?) PORTER." A rare example of painted advertising on a stoneware bottle. Excellent as-made condition with a small glazed-over spout chip. H 9 1/4".
