Rare Three-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Impressed Decoration, possibly NJ, second half 19th century, highly ovoid pitcher with tooled and cobalt-highlighted bands, narrow, spoutless opening, and heavily-ribbed handle, decorated with impressed geometric designs and hand-incised floral motifs. Decorated filled with cobalt slip. Base of handle decorated with a floral motif. Brushed "2" under handle. A skillfully-thrown and ambitiously-decorated example with heavy Germanic influence. Near mint condition with a base chip and a shallow chip on interior of rim, both of which appear to be in-the-making. H 16 1/2".
