Four-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Filter with Lid, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1860, ovoid, handled form with perforated, tubular base, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with a two-stemmed clover plant below a cobalt band and series of clovers. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals with curving line of cobalt below. Includes cobalt-decorated lid with flower petal motif around knob and foliate motif around border. Filter with reglued break at rim, some restoration to rim/collar area, two long hairlines from rim, and a few rim chips. Lid with restored knob, chips to flange on underside, a short crack to flange, and a thin Y-shaped surface crack on underside, extending from flange, not visible on top of lid.
