Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "I.M. MEAD / PORTAGE Co. / OHIO," circa 1835, ovoid jar with flaring collar and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with cobalt highlights to the maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. A 1 1/2" x 1" rim chip on proper left side of rim. Additional heavy, shallow chipping around rim. Various small, typical in-the-firing flaws to surface. A curving, in-the-making fissure to underside, which appears to be surface-level only. Some minor surface wear. A minor spot of old white paint to reverse. H 13".
