Very Rare Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Iron-Slip Floral Decoration from First Wood Firing of the Dr. Arthur F. and Esther Goldberg Edgefield Pottery Kiln, Stamped "FERRELL MAKER," Incised "Stephen Ferrell," and Inscribed "1ST / WOOD FIRING / Pottersville / Kiln / July 2, 2011 / Stephen Ferrell," ovoid jar with rounded rim and flattened lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed iron-slip flower against a light-tan ground. Impressed "FERRELL MAKER" under one handle and incised with Stephen Ferrell signature below. Other handle impressed below with "EDSC" stamp and incised "2 Gall." Underside with penned inscription, signed by Stephen Ferrell, indicating the jar was produced during the 1st wood firing of the Arthur and Esther Goldberg Edgefield Pottery Kiln. Included with this lot is a copy of the booklet, "Edgefield County Historical Society 2011 Summer Meeting: A Celebration of Edgefield Pottery, The Dedication of The Dr. Arthur F. and Esther Goldberg Edgefield Pottery Kiln Project and A Fourth of July Celebration." Jar in excellent, essentially as-made condition. Booklet is warped. H (of jar) 9 3/4".
