Rare Iron-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "JS," probably Jeff Spears, Middle TN origin, second half 19th century, ovoid jar with heavily tooled shoulder and narrow mouth with semi-rounded rim, the surface dipped in an iron wash and covered in a clear salt glaze. Impressed at shoulder with a raised-face "JS" maker's mark within a serrated border. Provenance: Carole Wahler Collection. Light surface wear. A large, in-the-firing matte area to midsection. Some traces of old red paint to surface. H 16 1/2".
