Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "William Rowley / Middlebury, O.," OH origin, third quarter 19th century, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, brush-decorated with a vertical design of a budding plant flanked by flourishes. Freehand "2" above. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. The first example of stoneware bearing this mark that we have offered. Excellent condition with a minor glazed-over chip to proper right handle and some minor staining. H 9 3/8".
