Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Incised Floral Decoration, Stamped "C. CROLIUS. / MANUFACTURER / NEW-YORK," early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, open loop handles, and semi-squared rim, decorated on the reverse with an incised and cobalt-highlighted floral motif in the Manhattan style, and on the front with brushed cobalt daubs around the maker's mark and stylized floral motif above. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A 1 1/4" rim chip. A minor in-the-firing chip to top of rim. Some in-the-firing flaws to surface, including a ping to shoulder on reverse, also visible on interior. Base chips, some of which is glazed over. A 3 1/4" line on underside, forming a fork-shaped crack on reverse, extending approximately 6 1/4" vertically by 7" horizontally. Significant exfoliation to bottom half of interior, including loss of brown glaze coating. H 13".
