Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Impressed Decoration, Stamped "COMMERAWS / STONEWARE," Thomas W. Commeraw, Corlears Hook, Manhattan, NY, early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, slightly-flared rim, and open loop handles, decorated with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted drape-and-tassel motif on the front and reverse. Impressed on opposing sides with the cobalt-highlighted words, "COMMERAWS" and "STONEWARE." Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Desirable size and lesser-seen horizontal loop handles for this capacity. Chips around base. A 2 1/2" line on underside forming a 4 7/8" crack ascending base. A glazed-over iron ping to midsection. A few minor rim nicks. H 9".
