Extremely Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Chicken Waterer, Stenciled "HARDEN / PALATINE W. VA," circa 1875, beehive form with arched handle across top and separately thrown and applied watering dish at base, decorated with stenciled flourishes at the center and stenciled tulips flanking Harden maker's stenciling. A highly unusual form in Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia stoneware and the only Palatine example that we have ever offered. Provenance: Crocker Farm, Inc., November 5, 2005, lot 131. Three long spider cracks ascending body of waterer. Chips to saucer. A crack descending from rim of saucer, running a few inches on underside near saucer edge. Partial stencil to the initials, "J.M.," before "HARDEN." H 12".
