Rare Ten-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Stamped "D S," Daniel Seagle, Lincoln County, NC, circa 1840, large-sized, rotund jar with deep pocket handles and thin, flattened rim, the surface covere in a mottled, olive-colored alkaline glaze with runs descending from the handles. Impressed "D S" on one handle and "10" on the other. This jar exhibits outstanding size and exemplary potting characterstic of Seagle's highly-skilled craftsmanship. Surface flakes to one side. A small rim chip and minor rim wear. A shallow flake to one handle. Flakes to interior, primarily in bottom. H 17 1/4".
