Three Pieces of Rustic Pottery, John Fritz, Philadelphia, PA, late 1870's, a molded pitcher and two mugs, each in a relief oak tree pattern with branch-form handle and original painted surface over a glazed ground. Pitcher incised with the signature, "John Fritz," on the underside and one mug with very faint relief maker's mark on underside, "JOHN FRITZ," whose Philadelphia terra cotta works operated circa 1876-79--first briefly on St. John Street (a now-defunct thoroughfare that ran mainly through the Northern Liberties section of the city) and then later at the corner of Somerset and Fifth Streets. Pitcher with long hairlines to interior, partially visible on exterior, and chips to spout. H (of pitcher) 11".
