Fine Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Chicken Waterer, attributed to Thomas Haig, Jr., Philadelphia, PA, circa 1875, dome-shaped form with handles, pointed finial, and hooded watering trough at front, brush-decorated on the back with an elaborate vertical tulip motif and on the front with stylized floral devices accenting the trough. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals, each joined by a curving line of cobalt. Bristol-slip-glazed-surface. Among the better Haig Bristol-slip-glazed waterers that we have offered. Very nice condition for a form that saw outdoor use and is often found damaged. Interior edge of trough with a 1" chip and a few minor chips. A small chip to reverse end of proper right handle. H 7 3/4".
