One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Cake Crock with Lid, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1880, wide, cylindrical crock, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with hanging swag motifs. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals and above handles. Includes possibly-original lid with groups of cobalt daubs around edge and button-shaped knob bordered with brushed petals to resemble a flower. Crock with small rim chips and rim wear, a hairline across underside, and a 1 7/8" base flake. Lid with loss to knob and a small chip and tiny chip to flange on underside of lid. Dimensions (without lid): 9 1/2" x 5 1/4" ; Diam. (of lid): 10".
