Scarce Six-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Star Stamp, Southern U.S. origin, second half 19th century, ovoid jar with narrow mouth, angular rim molding, and arched lug handles, the surface covered in a glossy, mottled-brown alkaline glaze over light-colored clay. Unusual large impressed star at shoulder. Incised "6" below one handle. Heavy flaking to interior. Otherwise excellent condition. H 18 1/2".
