Fine Three-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jug with Kaolin Slip Decoration, attributed to the Collin Rhodes Pottery, Shaw's Creek, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, highly ovoid jug with tooled spout, decorated in slip-trailed kaolin slip with a multi-stemmed foliate motif against a mottled olive to brown ground. Appealing large glaze run to proper right side of jug. Three deeply-incised punctates at shoulder, denoting three gallons. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 15".
