Exceptional Half-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Kaolin Slip Decoration, attributed to the Collin Rhodes Pottery, Shaw's Creek, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, rotund jug with tooled spout, decorated in slip-trailed kaolin slip with a flower blossom surrounding the fraction, "1/2," denoting one-half gallon, flanked by vertical foliate motifs with circular detail to each. Olive-colored, alkaline-glazed ground. Outstanding size, decoration, and condition. Excellent condition with a minor nick to spout and an area of in-the-firing glaze residue to base of jug. H 8 1/2".
