Outstanding Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Two-Color-Slip Floral Decoration, attributed to the Collin Rhodes Pottery, Shaw's Creek, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, rotund jug with tooled spout, lavishly-decorated in brushed iron slip and slip-trailed kaolin slip with a large flower featuring splayed leaves and script "3" at the center of the blossom. Gray-green alkaline-glazed ground. A wonderful example of Southern slip-decorated stoneware with strong visual appeal in both the design and form. Provenance: From a fifty-year SC collection. Large section of spout restored. Otherwise excellent condition with some minor surface wear. H 15".
