Rockingham-Glazed Pottery Loving Cup with Applied Frogs and Snake, English origin, 19th century, molded cylindrical form with two twig handles, the front and reverse decorated with relief busts of male and female figures smoking a pipe and taking snuff, each flanked by images of rearing dogs. Surface covered in a mottled brown alkaline glaze. Interior decorated with a coiled snake and frog composed of brown-slip-decorated yellow clay, as well as a second brown-glazed frog. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. Losses to both of frogs' rear feet. Chips to end of snake's mouth. H 6 3/4" ; W (including handles) 11 3/4".
