Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Eagle Motif, Stenciled "Star Pottery," Hamilton & Jones, Greensboro, PA, circa 1875, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, brush-decorated with freehand stripes and vining to the upper body above a stenciled design of a flying eagle carrying a banner in its beak, inscribed "Star Pottery." A freehand "2" flanked by dashes, underscored by a freehand stripe. A thin horizontal crack around base, not visible on interior. Staining throughout. A 2 1/8" diagonal line crosses through this crack on front, intersecting at a minor in-the-firing ping. Two Y-shaped surface lines near midsection on front, not visible on interior. H 12".
