Glazed Redware Jar with Lid, possibly Southern origin, 19th century, flaring form with mottled brown glaze composed of lead colored with iron or manganese, the interior coated in a clear lead glaze over an orange ground. Includes original domed lid with matching glaze. A 2 3/4" x 2" flake to midsection. Small chips and wear to rim. A 1/2" in-the-firing line on underside, continuing 2" up base. Surface wear. An in-the-firing contact mark to shoulder. An in-the-firing matte area to shoulder. Lid with a 1 1/2" chip to flange on underside, other chips, exfoliation to top, and wear to finial. H (including lid) 11 1/2".
