Five-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Double-Handled Jug with Two-Color-Slip Chicken Decoration, Signed and Dated "FERRELL / 1993," Stephen Ferrell, Edgefield, SC, 1993, highly ovoid jug with tooled spout and rounded handles applied at the shoulder, decorated in brushed iron slip and slip-trailed kaolin slip with a large design of a chicken and on the opposing side with number "5" within a wreath. Stamped "FERRELL" below one handle, above the kaolin-slip date, "1993." Surface covered in a gray-green alkaline glaze. Underside inscribed in iron slip, "I-257 / Sept 1993." Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 17".
