Two Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jars, Southern U.S. origin, 19th-20th centuries, an ovoid four-gallon jar with olive-colored alkaline glaze featuring heavy whitish rutile, stamped "4," attributed to Joe "Jug" Johnson, Laurens County, SC, late 19th or first quarter 20th century; paired with a two-gallon, highly-ovoid jar with olive-colored alkaline glaze, NC origin. Provenance: From a fifty-year SC collection. Larger with rim and handle chips. Smaller with losses and chips to rim and chips to one handle. H (of taller) 15".
