Two Pieces of Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware, Southern U.S. origin, second half 19th century, a pitcher of rare form with tall, vertical foot, ribbed, angular turnings to the body, tall collar, and unusual handle construction, the surface covered in a mottled brown alkaline glaze with olive highlights, Edgefield District, SC origin; paired with a semi-ovoid jug with striated alkaline glaze, GA or SC origin. Provenance: From a fifty-year SC collection. Pitcher with large restored loss to spout and unrestored shallow chipping around rim. Jug with large spout chip and a thin, diagonal crack to shoulder. H (of pitcher) 10 1/2".
