Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Lid, Stamped "J.W.S. & CO. / PINE HOUSE, S C," circa 1860, ovoid jar with semi-rounded rim, the surface covered in a runny, olive-green alkaline glaze. Impressed with John W. Seigler maker's mark at base. Includes fitting unglazed Edgefield stoneware lid, original to the jar. Provenance: Richard and Cindy Pearce Collection. Jar with significant restoration to rim and an inverted T-shaped crack from rim, which is partially restored and includes two 1 1/4" restored sections to surface and shoulder. One of these restored sections forms a small filled hole on interior. Lid with two shallow edge chip and grease residue to surface. H (excluding lid) 8 7/8".
