Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Inscribed "Philip Miller / 1854," Midwestern origin, probably OH, 1854, ovoid jug with wide, semi-squared spout, brush-decorated with a flower with undulating stem, accented with spots. Inscribed below with the freehand cobalt signature and date, "Philip Miller /1854." Inscribed above with a "3" flanked by dashes, underscored by a freehand stripe. In-the-firing spalling to glaze on reverse / sides of jug. Some light surface wear. A 1 1/2" glazed-over line ascending base on reverse. H 15".
