Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'," PA origin, circa 1850-1880, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with Bell's distinctive spotted tulip motif over streaky whitish slip. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. In-the-firing bloated spots to surface. A small in-the-firing contact mark to reverse of proper right handle. A small flake to cobalt on reverse. A 3/4" crack on underside, extending 4 1/4" up body of jar below proper left handle. Some warping to rim. H 12 1/2".
